The New Beginning

Young Minds in the Community (YMIC) began with the purpose of creating a sense of belonging for individuals who are starting their careers and want to continue to develop their skills. Young Minds in the Community met for the first time at Starbucks in City Heights, San Diego. At our first meeting we had 4 individuals attend and went around to introduce ourselves and what drew us to attend this meeting. Similar responses were exchanged in the interest of joining the group to network and have a space to allow one another to invest in self-growth. A common ground was established of being respectful of each other not only in time but also with a commitment to supporting our growth and each other's growth.

Our first month was focused on meeting our members and sharing our common goals. It was amazing to see diverse individuals come together and everyone’s willingness to make time to contribute to their self-growth. Our members are made up of college graduates, small business owners, financial advisors, and higher education advocates. Brining in diverse individuals is a goal that our organization will continue to focus on.

We met twice in January and since our first meeting, we increased our attendance to 7 members. “Once I began to see more individuals show up for this organization it motivated me to continue to work hard to make this organization succeed”, said Emilio, CEO of Young Minds in the Community. Our second meeting was successful by bringing in new members and continuing to connect with one another to create that sense of community. It has been rewarding seeing new connections being formed and our members networking with one another.
